I wrote this song in 2013. My work life had changed to a 24/7 work week to meet the demands of new cloud technology while executive decisions that had code names were being deployed to remove older employees. It would turn into a brutal environment where there was no chance to survive it.

Lyrics

After The Fire - by Robin Lee Field

There’s a deadline every week
There’s no change
There’s no day
And there’s no night
The only sound that you’ll hear
Is the click of a key
Hum of a drive
And I’ve never worked so hard 24/7
Online, past my prime
So you’ll have to steal my heart
Through the wire, after the fire

After the fire is out After the fire is out
Throw another piece of smoke and desire
After the fire

It’s a crazy world today
Your just a number on a page
That fades away
The competition is so high
Your just a rank in someone’s file
And an age
Well I’m just trying to survive 24/7
Online, past my prime
So you’ll have to steal my heart
Through the wire, after the fire

After the fire is out After the fire is out
Throw another piece of smoke and desire
After the fire
